Agadir Tours & Desert Trips from Agadir

Agadir Tours & Desert Trips

Our Agadir tours take you from the Atlantic beaches of southern Morocco to the kasbahs, gorges and golden dunes of the Sahara, with hotel pick-up in Agadir and your own driver for the whole journey. Whether you are staying in a resort hotel, a surf camp in Taghazout or a riad in town, we collect you at the door and bring the south of Morocco to you.

We are a local team based in Marrakech and have been running trips across the country for over a decade. Every tour from Agadir can be adapted to your dates, pace and budget, and we are happy to send a free quote before you book.

Things to do in Agadir

Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, so it feels more modern than Marrakech or Fes. Its real draws are the bay, the mild climate and an easy mix of beach time and day trips.

  • The beach and the corniche – a wide crescent of sand with a long seafront promenade, cafés and the marina at its northern end.
  • Agadir Oufella – the ruins of the old hilltop kasbah, reached by cable car or road, with sweeping views over the city and the port.
  • Souk El Had – a huge walled market selling spices, argan oil, olives, leather and ceramics; it is busiest at weekends.
  • Taghazout and the surf coast – a relaxed fishing and surf village around 20 km north, with lessons for beginners and famous point breaks.
  • Paradise Valley – palm-fringed rock pools in the Atlas foothills, about an hour’s drive inland.
  • Souss-Massa National Park – dunes, estuary and birdlife south of the city, including the rare northern bald ibis.
  • Taroudant – a walled market town about 85 km east, often called “little Marrakech”, and the first stop on most desert routes.

Most of these make an easy half-day or full-day outing. If you would rather not drive yourself, you can book a car with driver in Morocco for local excursions, or ask us to add them to a longer trip.

Agadir to Sahara: the desert route

The road from Agadir to the Sahara is one of the most varied drives in Morocco. Heading east, you pass Taroudant and climb into the Anti-Atlas, through saffron country around Taliouine and the carpet-weaving town of Taznakht, before reaching the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and the film studios of Ouarzazate.

From there, the route follows either the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through Skoura, the Valley of Roses and the Todra Gorge, or the palm groves of the Draa Valley and the black volcanic desert around Alnif. Both end at the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga, which rise to around 150 m.

Distances and driving times

  • Agadir – Ouarzazate: about 370 km, 5–6 hours with stops.
  • Agadir – Merzouga: roughly 650–700 km, 10–11 hours of driving in total, so it is always split over two days.
  • Agadir – Marrakech: about 250 km, around 3 hours on the motorway.

Because of these distances, an Agadir desert tour needs at least four days to be comfortable, with a night in Ouarzazate on the way and a night in a desert camp among the dunes.

Choose Your Agadir Tour

All our Agadir tours are private: your own driver and vehicle, no strangers, and departures on any day you choose.

Ending a trip in Marrakech is a popular choice for travellers who fly home from there; you can extend your stay with one of our Marrakech tours. If you want to see more of the dunes themselves, our Merzouga activities include quad biking, buggies and longer camel treks, and you can compare every route on our Morocco desert tours page.

How our tours from Agadir work

Best time for an Agadir desert tour

Agadir itself is pleasant all year, with mild winters and summers cooled by the Atlantic breeze, which is why it is so popular for winter sun. Inland, the picture is different.

  • Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the best seasons for the desert, with warm days and comfortable nights.
  • Winter (November–March) brings clear, sunny days, but desert and mountain nights are cold, so pack warm layers; camps provide blankets.
  • Summer (June–August) is very hot in the Sahara. Tours still run, with early starts and long midday breaks, while the coast stays comfortable.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do you need for a desert trip from Agadir?

Allow at least four days. The Merzouga dunes are around 10–11 hours' drive from Agadir, so the journey is split over two days each way. Five days gives a more relaxed pace and the option to end in Marrakech.

Can you do a Sahara day trip from Agadir?

Not to the real dunes. There are small dunes near the coast and in Souss-Massa, but the Erg Chebbi dunes of the Sahara are too far for a day trip. A multi-day tour with a night in a desert camp is the way to experience them.

How much does a tour from Agadir cost?

Prices depend on the number of people in your group, the level of accommodation and the season. Each tour page shows live prices and lets you book online, and we are happy to send a free quote for a tailor-made trip.

Can the tour start in Agadir and finish somewhere else?

Yes. The 5-day tour ends in Marrakech and the 8-day tour in Casablanca, and on a private trip we can finish in Fes, Marrakech or another city to fit your flights.

Is it safe to travel from Agadir to the desert?

Yes. The main roads through the Anti-Atlas and the south are in good condition, and you travel with an experienced local driver who knows the route well. As anywhere, keep an eye on your belongings in busy markets.
