Itinerary
1Fes – Rif Mountains – Chefchaouen – Fes
Your driver picks you up from your accommodation in Fes and drives you to Chefchaouen, set in the foothills of the Rif Mountains (about 3.5 hours). Founded in 1471 and later home to Muslims and Jews who left Spain after the Reconquista, Chefchaouen is famous for its blue-washed walls framed by mountain peaks. Enjoy free time to wander its narrow blue-and-white lanes, explore the old medina and the kasbah, and walk up to Ras El Ma, where the mountain spring flows into the town. Have lunch at a local restaurant on Outa el Hammam square. In the afternoon, drive back to Fes and your hotel.

- Driving time: about 3.5 hours each way, so you will have around 4–5 hours in Chefchaouen.
- Best light for photos: morning and late afternoon; the blue lanes around Plaza Outa el Hammam are busiest at midday.
- Stay overnight? Chefchaouen is lovely in the evening when the day visitors leave; ask us about adding a night.
- Local guide: available on request for a walking tour of the medina.

- A light jacket in winter; the Rif Mountains are cooler than Fes.

Frequently asked questions
Why is Chefchaouen blue?
There are several explanations, including a tradition brought by Jewish refugees in the 1930s and the belief that blue keeps away mosquitoes. Today locals repaint the walls to keep the town's famous look.
Can I visit Akchour waterfalls on the same day?
It makes for a very long day; we recommend staying overnight if you want to see both.
