Answers to common questions about safety, booking, luggage, comfort and bus stations in Morocco.
Is it safe to travel around Morocco by bus?
Yes. CTM and Supratours have a good safety record, maintain their fleets well and employ experienced drivers. A few simple tips:
- Travel with a trusted company such as CTM or Supratours.
- Keep valuables with you in a small bag, especially in busy stations.
- Prefer daytime journeys on mountain roads, or hire a car with a driver for more flexibility.
Which routes do buses cover?
Buses link all the main cities, such as Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh, Fes, Tangier and Agadir, and also serve smaller towns including Chefchaouen, Essaouira, Ouarzazate and Merzouga.
How do I book a bus ticket online?
Select your route and date in the links below, choose a departure and pay by card. You will receive an e-ticket by email.
Do I need to book in advance?
On most routes you can buy a ticket on the day, but booking a few days ahead is wise at weekends, during holidays and on popular long-distance routes, which can sell out.
What are the main bus companies?
CTM has the largest national network. Supratours, run by the national railway ONCF, connects with trains and serves tourist destinations such as Merzouga, Essaouira and Chefchaouen.
What facilities do the buses have?
Long-distance coaches have air conditioning and reclining seats, and some have Wi-Fi or USB charging. Toilets on board are rare, so bring water and snacks for long journeys.
Are Moroccan buses comfortable?
Yes. CTM and Supratours coaches are modern and comfortable, and both are good choices for local and international travellers.
Where are the bus stations?
CTM and Supratours often have their own stations, separate from the main public bus station (gare routière). In Marrakesh, for example, the Supratours office is next to the train station. Check the exact departure point on your ticket.
What if I miss my bus?
Go to the company's ticket office straight away. Depending on the fare, you may be able to change to a later bus for a small fee; otherwise you will need a new ticket.
Can I bring large luggage?
Yes. Large bags go in the hold. They are tagged at check-in, usually for a small fee, and you receive a receipt that you need to collect them at your destination.
Are there rest stops on long journeys?
Yes. Long routes include short stops for food and toilets. Carry some cash in dirhams, as roadside cafés rarely accept cards.
Why travel by bus in Morocco?
Buses are affordable, frequent and go almost everywhere, including desert, mountain and coastal towns with no railway. They are also a relaxed way to watch Morocco's changing landscapes.
