As part of your three-day desert excursion from Marrakech to Merzouga, you’ll also see the renowned Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou, which the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated as a World Heritage Site in 1986. Numerous movies, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and Sahara with Penélope Cruz, were filmed in this breathtaking location. Our Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour continues through the palm grove of Skoura, Rose Valley, known for its yearly rose festival and cosmetic products, the green Dades valley, and fascinating Todra Gorge, a well-known location for rock climbing. Oscar Atlas Film Studio, the largest film studio in Morocco, and Taourirt Kasbah will be our next stops. Finally, we will reach Merzouga – Erg Chebbi desert, which is our ideal destination. Here, we will enjoy a camel ride to see the sunset and spend an unforgettable night in a Berber tent. The next day, we’ll travel back to Marrakech, stopping along the way to take in the panoramic vistas and photo opportunities. Day 1 : Marrakech – Tizi n’ Tichka – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

After breakfast, your driver from Sahara Camel Trips organisation will pick you up from your hotel or riad to begin our Marrakech desert excursions. 3 days spent crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2260 m), taking in the breathtaking vistas of the Atlas Mountains and real, little Berber communities. Following photo stops along the way, proceed to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified settlement that was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. Countless movies, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and Sahara with Penélope Cruz, were filmed in this breathtaking location. After some free time for lunch at a restaurant, our Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour continues to Ouazazate, where we will see the Taourirt Kasbah, another important historical monument, and the Oscar Atlas Film Studio, the largest film studio in Morocco. After that, we will travel through the magnificent Skoura palm grove, the Rose Valley, which is famous for its annual rose festival and cosmetic products in May, and the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. We will arrive in Dades Valley in the afternoon, where we will have dinner and spend the night at a hotel with a view of the valley.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga desert and Camel Excursion

Our 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga tour departs from the hotel after breakfast and travels through Tinghir before arriving at Todra Gorge. Before we get to the Todra Gorges, one of the best rock climbing locations in Morocco, we’ll pause to observe the lovely Todra valley filled with palm trees. We will have a brief stroll through the area’s 300-meter-high, grey-and-pink high canyons before moving on to Erfoud, where we will experience Tafilalet, the first Saharan oasis, before stopping in Tinjdad and Touroug for lunch. A break will be taken in the middle of the dunes to watch the sunset, try sandboarding if you’re interested, take pictures, and take in the scenery before continuing on to Merzouga and the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes, where you will take a camel ride for about an hour and a half to get to your Nomadic berber tents.

Day 3: Merzouga – Agdez – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Following breakfast and a shower at camp the following morning, you can either ride camels or take a 4WD transfer back to the starting location, where you will meet your driver. After there, we’ll drive back to Marrakech via an area of dry pre-desert where we’ll see acacia trees, which are typical of this landscape. We’ll stop a few times en route to the Draa valley to take in the breathtaking views of the river that gives the valley its name. It is Morocco’s longest river. Through the Anti Atlas, we carry on with our 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga excursion in the direction of Ouarzazate. After some free time for lunch in the city, we’ll continue travelling to Marrakech, where we’ll arrive in the late afternoon or early evening. After checking into your hotel, your three-day Sahara desert vacation from Marrakech to Merzouga will come to a conclusion.

We booked the 3-day Merzouga to Marrakech Sahara Desert Tour because we wanted to visit the Sahara while in Marrakech. Our driver and tour guide, Ahmed, was really nice and went above and beyond to ensure that we were at ease and enjoying ourselves. He was familiar with the Berber people and the culture of the Atlas Mountains because he was from there. He's a sociable individual, and it's obvious that he had connections in the majority of the places we visited. As a result, we were able to have some great little bonus experiences that added to the authenticity of the trip.
