Day-by-day itinerary

1. 1Day 1: Casablanca – Rabat – Meknes – Fes

   Pick-up from Casablanca airport or your hotel, with a stop at the Hassan II Mosque. Drive to Rabat, Morocco’s capital, to see the Hassan Tower, then continue via Meknes to Fes. Dinner and overnight in a traditional riad.
2. 2Day 2: Guided tour of Fes

   Spend most of the day exploring the medina of Fes with a local guide, including the Mellah (old Jewish quarter), the Royal Palace gates, the ancient souks and the tanneries. Overnight in Fes.
3. 3Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Rissani – Merzouga

   Leave at about 8:00 for Ifrane and the cedar forest of Azrou, where you can watch wild Barbary macaques climbing the trees. Continue across the Middle Atlas and down the Ziz Valley to Erfoud, known for its fossils, and Rissani, a traditional market town where tribes from the region come to trade. Arrive in Merzouga in the evening.
4. 4Day 4: Merzouga – nomads, Khamlia, camel ride and desert camp

   Explore the Merzouga area: the seasonal lake, the Gnawa village of Khamlia, nomad families living around the Erg Chebbi dunes, abandoned mines and a palm-fringed oasis. After a local lunch, ride a camel into the dunes at sunset and spend the night in a desert camp with Berber drumming.
5. 5Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorge – Dades

   Photograph the sunrise over the dunes, then return to Merzouga for breakfast and a shower. Drive west via Erfoud and Jorf, known for its traditional khettara irrigation channels, to the Todra Gorge, one of the most spectacular canyons in Morocco. Continue to the Dades Valley for the night.
6. 6Day 6: Dades – Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Tizi n'Tichka – Marrakech

   Drive past earthen Berber villages to the palm groves of Skoura, then to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa”, to see Taourirt Kasbah and the Atlas Film Studios. Visit Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, seen in Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Then cross the High Atlas over the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass to your accommodation in Marrakech.
7. 7Day 7: Guided tour of Marrakech

   From about 9:00, explore the medina of the “Red City” with a local guide: Jemaa el-Fnaa square, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian Tombs, the Menara Gardens and the Majorelle Garden.
8. 8Day 8: Marrakech – airport

   Transfer to Marrakech airport in time for your flight.
