Casablanca Tours & Trips from Casablanca

Casablanca Tours with a Local Team

Casablanca tours are the easiest way to turn an arrival at Mohammed V Airport into a full journey across Morocco. Our local team, based in Marrakech, meets you at the airport or your hotel and drives you north to the imperial cities, over the Atlas Mountains to the Sahara and on to Marrakech, at a pace that suits you.

Casablanca itself deserves a day before you set off. It is Morocco’s largest city and its business capital, with Atlantic views, Art Deco streets and the country’s most famous mosque. Below you will find what to see in the city, how a typical route to the desert works and what our trips include.

Things to do in Casablanca

  • Hassan II Mosque – built partly over the ocean, with one of the tallest minarets in the world. It is one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslims can enter, on guided visits held at set times outside prayer.
  • Art Deco downtown – walk Mohammed V Boulevard and the streets around the Central Market to see 1920s and 1930s façades, then stop at the market for fresh oysters or mint tea.
  • The Habous quarter – a calm “new medina” laid out in the 1930s, good for bookshops, olive stalls, traditional pastries and craft shopping without the bustle.
  • The Old Medina – the compact walled district near the port, best explored on foot with a local guide.
  • The Corniche and Ain Diab – a seafront promenade lined with beach clubs, cafés and fish restaurants, lovely at sunset.
  • Morocco Mall – one of the largest shopping centres in Africa, useful for a rainy afternoon or last-minute purchases.

Most travellers find that one full day covers the highlights. If you arrive late, we can schedule your Casablanca sightseeing on the morning of departure before heading north.

Casablanca to the Sahara: How the Route Works

The Sahara dunes are a long way from the Atlantic coast, so a good itinerary breaks the drive into comfortable stages with plenty to see on the way. A typical route looks like this:

  1. Casablanca to Rabat (about 90 km, 1 h 15) – the capital, with the Kasbah of the Udayas and the Hassan Tower.
  2. Rabat to Chefchaouen (about 4 h) – the blue-washed town in the Rif Mountains, ideal for an overnight stop.
  3. Chefchaouen to Fes via Volubilis and Meknes – Roman mosaics, the imperial gates of Meknes and an evening in Fes.
  4. Fes to Merzouga (about 470 km, 7–8 h) – through cedar forests and the Middle Atlas to the Erg Chebbi dunes, which rise to around 150 m. You ride a camel at sunset and sleep in a desert camp.
  5. Merzouga to Marrakech (about 560 km, 9–10 h) – usually split over two days via the Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley, Ouarzazate and Ait Benhaddou.

Shorter trips skip Chefchaouen or the north altogether and head straight for the dunes. If you only have a few days, you can also take the train to Marrakech (about 2.5–3 hours) and join one of our Marrakech tours from there.

Best Time to Go and How Booking Works

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) bring the most comfortable temperatures for long drives and nights in the desert. Summer is hot inland but pleasant on the coast; from November to March the desert nights are cold, so pack warm layers.
