The four-day Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour will give you the chance to discover the splendour of southern Morocco, including the magnificent Atlas Mountains, whose breathtaking views and traditional Berber communities you can visit. Your four-day trip through the Moroccan desert from Marrakech will take you onward to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, which UNESCO designated as a World Heritage Site in 1986. A number of movies, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and Sahara with Penélope Cruz, were filmed here. After visiting the Taourirt Kasbah and the Oscar Atlas Film Studio in Ouarzazate, the largest film studio in Morocco, our four-day desert journey from Marrakech to Fes continues through the Skoura Palm Grove, Rose Valley, which is known for its annual rose festival and cosmetic products, the green Dades Valley, and the fascinating Todra Gorge, a well-known rock climbing location. Finally, we'll get to Merzouga - Erg Chebbi Desert, one of our favourite places, where we'll have a camel ride to see the sunset and spend an unforgettable night in a Berber tent. The following day, we'll journey to Fes, stopping along the way to take in the panoramic vistas, picture breaks in Ziz Valley, stunning views of the Atlas Mountains in the centre, the Azrou Cedar Forest, and Ifrane before arriving in Fes.

Day 1: Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Kelaa M'gouna - Dades

Your driver from Sahara Camel Trips will pick you up from your hotel or riad at 8:30 am following breakfast to begin your Marrakech to Fes desert excursion over the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2260 m). Continue to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou (fortified village), the famous Kasbah declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, where a number of films have been shot, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and Sahara with Penélope Cruz… While enjoying fantastic views of the Atlas mountains and authentic small Berber villages on the way with breaks to take pictures, then continue to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou… After some free time for lunch at a restaurant, we continue our 4-day Morocco desert tour to Ouarzazate, where we will see Taourirt Kasbah, another important historical monument, and Oscar Atlas Film Studio, the country’s largest film studio. After that, we will travel through the magnificent Skoura palm grove, the Rose Valley, which is famous for its annual rose festival and cosmetic products in May, and the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. We will then arrive in the Dades Valley in the afternoon, where we will have dinner and spend the night in a hotel or riad with a view of the valley.

Day 2: Dades - Todra Gorges - Tinejdad - Erfoud - Erg Chebbi (Merzouga)

After breakfast at the hotel, our 4 Days Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour departs for Todra Gorge. Berber villages are dispersed along the route as we pass through Tinghir. Before arriving at Todra Gorges, one of the most well-liked rock climbing locations in Morocco, we’ll stop to admire the lovely Todra valley full of palm trees. We will take a brief stroll through the area’s 300-meter-high, grey-and-pink high canyons before moving on to Touroug and Tinjdad for lunch. From there, we will travel to Erfoud, which will resemble Tafilalet, the first Saharan oasis, before continuing on to Merzouga and the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes. A stop will be taken in the middle of the dunes to watch the sunset, try sandboarding if that’s an activity you’re interested in, snap pictures, and take in the landscape. From here, it will take you a camel ride for around an hour and a half to reach to your Nomadic Berber tents. As soon as dusk falls, you’ll keep going to the camp, where you’ll be greeted with a drink of mint tea, dinner, a campfire, a music party, and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Full Day in the desert (Visit the Nomads, Berber Villages, Ride camels...etc.)

The Merzouga 4×4 adventure will begin after breakfast at your accommodation. We’ll visit the Hassi Labied oasis to witness its irrigation canal and land agriculture before continuing our exploration of the Erg Chebbi dunes. If you’d want to hear the Gnawa music of the dark-skinned people who were transported to Morocco as immigrants more than a century ago and who were working as slaves, we’ll go south to the seasonally active Dayt Sriji lake (if there is water in it)… Following that, we’ll travel to the M’ifis mines, which control tourism in the Merzouga desert, which is renowned for its minerals and fossils. We’ll have the chance to meet a nomadic Berber family still residing in their tent in the heart of the Sahara during our Merzouga 4×4 desert tour; we’ll share a drink of mint tea with them and learn about life in the desert… After lunch at a nearby restaurant, we’ll return to the village for supper and an overnight stay at a hotel with a view of the sand dunes. Along the way, we’ll stop at various panoramic viewpoints to soak in the beauty and take pictures of the attractions.

Day 4: Merzouga - Ziz Valley - Errachidia - Midelt - Azrou - Ifrane - Fes

On your final day of travel with Sahara Camel Trips, following a hearty breakfast at your accommodation, we’ll head to Fes via the Ziz Valley, Morocco’s second-longest river. In the afternoon, as we travel to Fes, we’ll stop at the Cedar Forest in Azrou, where we’ll visit the wild monkeys and have a brief walk through the forest to take pictures. As you cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, you’ll see breathtaking views and have time to eat lunch at a restaurant. Our 4-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour comes to a conclusion when we make a stop at Ifrane, which is known as the “Little Switzerland of Morocco.” You will be dropped off at your hotel when we arrive in Fes in the late afternoon.

Although it was a bit exhausting (we took a 4-day tour, so image traveling for 5, 6, or even 10 hours virtually every day), it was also a lot of fun. We had two guides, Said and Ali, who were very nice and helpful with all of our questions. We felt completely protected with them. The desert stay was my favorite part since you can see so many stars (and even shooting stars) at night, it was beautiful and magnificent. I would definitely suggest this firm since they communicate and respond swiftly.
