Day-by-day itinerary

1. 1Day 1: Tangier – Rif Mountains – Chefchaouen

   Meet your driver at Tangier port or airport and head into the Rif Mountains, enjoying the views along the way. The afternoon is free to explore the blue-and-white streets of Chefchaouen. Overnight in a riad or hotel.
2. 2Day 2: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

   Drive through Rif villages to Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman site in this part of North Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. In Meknes, see the famous Bab Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. After lunch, continue to Fes. Overnight in a riad in the medina.
3. 3Day 3: Guided tour of Fes

   Spend the day exploring Fes, Morocco’s oldest imperial city, with a local guide. Walk through its narrow lanes to the Royal Palace gates and the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter, then visit Al Quaraouiyine university, the Chouara tanneries, the Al Attarine Madrasa and the Zaouia of Moulay Idriss. Overnight in the medina.
4. 4Day 4: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

   Cross the Middle Atlas, with its forests, rocky peaks and Berber villages, via Ifrane, a resort town built by the French in the 1930s to look like a Swiss village. Stop for lunch in Midelt, known for its apples and minerals, then follow the Ziz Valley via Erfoud, centre of the date harvest, to Merzouga. Overnight in a hotel near the dunes.
5. 5Day 5: Merzouga – Khamlia – nomads – camel ride and desert camp

   After breakfast, visit Khamlia to meet Gnawa musicians and learn about their music and way of life. Head into the desert to visit nomad families who still live in tents woven from goat and camel hair, and enjoy a Berber “pizza” for lunch. In the late afternoon, your camel guide leads you on a 1.5-hour ride to a camp among the highest dunes. Watch the sunset, have dinner under the stars and spend the night in the desert.
6. 6Day 6: Merzouga – Rissani – Tinghir – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

   Your guide wakes you for sunrise before you ride back to Merzouga for breakfast and a shower. Drive through Rissani and Tinghir to the Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s narrowest and highest canyons. After lunch, continue into the Dades Valley to see its kasbahs and the “Monkey Fingers” rock formations. Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.
7. 7Day 7: Dades – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou

   Follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, one of the most photogenic drives in Morocco. Visit semi-nomadic families living in caves, and stop in Kelaat M’Gouna, the rose capital, to buy rose water. Visit the Amridil Kasbah in the Skoura oasis, then spend the afternoon in Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa”, including the Atlas Film Studios. Overnight at Ait Ben Haddou.
8. 8Day 8: Ait Ben Haddou – Tizi n'Tichka – Marrakech

   Explore the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou in the morning light, then cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n’Tichka pass, the highest major road pass in Morocco. Arrive in Marrakech, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities, in the afternoon.
9. 9Day 9: Guided tour of Marrakech

   At about 9:00, your local guide meets you at your accommodation to visit the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, Jemaa el-Fnaa square and the souks. After lunch, we drive you to the Majorelle Garden, then back to your hotel.
10. 10Day 10: Marrakech – airport

    Transfer to Marrakech airport in time for your flight.
