Morocco Honeymoon and Romantic Luxury Trips

A Morocco honeymoon planned around the two of you: romantic riads, private desert glamping, sunset dinners, hammam rituals and the sea air of Essaouira. … Read More

A Morocco honeymoon has a way of feeling far more distant than the few hours’ flight from Europe suggests. One evening you are dining by candlelight on a riad roof as the call to prayer rolls across the city; two days later you are wrapped in a blanket outside your own tent, watching the dunes turn from orange to violet. Few places offer that much contrast, and that much privacy, in a single week.

Our team in Marrakech has been planning trips for couples for over a decade. Many of them are newlyweds, others are celebrating an anniversary or simply want time alone after a busy year. What they share is a wish for unhurried days, beautiful places to sleep and a driver who knows when to talk and when to leave them to the view.

Why couples choose Morocco

Morocco is romantic in an intimate, tactile way: the scent of orange blossom in a courtyard, warm zellige tiles underfoot, lanterns throwing star patterns on the walls. Distances are manageable, the food is generous and the light – especially in spring and autumn – is soft enough to make every photo look staged. You can mix city, mountains, desert and ocean without changing hotel every night.

If you are mainly looking for high-end comfort in general, our luxury Morocco tours page covers premium itineraries for all travellers. This page focuses on what makes a trip feel romantic for two.

Romantic riads and where to stay

A riad is a traditional house built around an inner courtyard, often with a fountain, orange trees and a roof terrace. The best boutique riads have only a handful of rooms, so you may find yourselves with a plunge pool all to yourselves. We choose properties for their atmosphere and their staff as much as their décor, and we can ask for rose petals, a bottle of something chilled or a private breakfast on the terrace on your first morning.

Outside the medina, palm-grove villas and Atlas lodges offer gardens, larger pools and complete calm. Read our comparison of riad vs hotel in Morocco to see which suits you, or let us mix both.

Private desert glamping and sunset dinners

For most couples the desert night is the centrepiece. In the dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga, luxury camps offer spacious tents with proper beds, en-suite bathrooms and, on request, a private dinner set apart from other guests with lanterns, a small fire and a cook who seems to have nowhere else to be. Arrive by camel at sunset, or by 4×4 if you prefer to keep your shoes free of sand.

Short on time? The Agafay desert, a stony landscape about 40 km from Marrakech with views of the snow-capped High Atlas, has stylish camps for a single romantic night without the long drive. It has no tall dunes, but the sunsets are superb. Our Agafay desert tours explain the options.

Special touches we can arrange

 • A private sunset dinner on a dune ridge or a riad rooftop.
 • A couples’ hammam and massage in Marrakech.
 • A sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the Marrakech plains or a helicopter flight – only on request through trusted partners, subject to availability and weather.
 • A photographer for an hour in the medina or the dunes, through local partners.
 • Flowers, a cake or a handwritten note waiting in your room.

Hammam and spa time

A traditional hammam is one of the great Moroccan rituals: steam, black olive-oil soap, a vigorous scrub with a kessa glove and a rhassoul clay wrap, followed by mint tea in a quiet lounge. Spa hammams in Marrakech offer private rooms for couples, with argan-oil massages afterwards. Leave the afternoon free and do nothing more strenuous than a slow dinner. Our Moroccan hammam guide explains what to expect.

Essaouira and the Atlantic coast

After the heat and colour of Marrakech, Essaouira feels like a deep breath. The whitewashed medina, listed by UNESCO, is small enough to wander without a map; fishing boats unload in the blue harbour and the ramparts glow at sunset. Couples spend their days on long beach walks, eating grilled sardines by the port and browsing thuya-wood workshops. It is about two and a half to three hours from Marrakech, ideal for the last days of your trip. See our Morocco coastal tours for more ideas.

Honeymoon tours and sample itinerary

These private tours are a good basis for a honeymoon. Each runs with your own driver and vehicle, and we can upgrade the accommodation to boutique and luxury properties throughout.

Nine romantic days

1–2 Marrakech Boutique riad, gardens, couples’ hammam, rooftop dinner
3 High Atlas to Dades Valley Tizi n’Tichka pass, Ait Ben Haddou, kasbah hotel

For a ready-made version, the 8-day tour from Marrakech follows a similar route, and we can add the coast at the end. The Moroccan National Tourist Office site is useful for background on regions and festivals.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for a honeymoon in Morocco?

March to May and late September to November bring warm days and comfortable nights. Winter is lovely in Marrakech but cold in the desert at night; summer is very hot inland, so pair it with the coast. More on our best time to visit Morocco page.

Can we have a private dinner in the desert?

Yes. Most of the camps we work with can set up a separate table under the stars on request. Tell us when booking so the camp can prepare.

Is a hot-air balloon flight included?

Not by default. Balloon and helicopter flights are only arranged on request through trusted partners, subject to availability and weather, and paid separately.

Is Morocco comfortable for unmarried couples?

Foreign couples share rooms in hotels and riads without issue. Discretion with public displays of affection is appreciated, particularly outside the big cities.

How far ahead should we book?

Small boutique riads and the best desert tents fill quickly in spring and autumn. Booking two to three months ahead gives you the widest choice; a 10% deposit secures your tour.
