Your three-day trip from Fes to Merzouga begins at 8:30 a.m. when our driver from Sahara Camel Trips organisation picks you up from your accommodation in Fes. We’ll take a lovely drive through Berber communities on the way to Merzouga through the middle Atlas highlands. Stop in the lovely city of Ifrane (often referred to as “Moroccan Switzerland”) before continuing to Azrou, a famous cedar forest where you may see monkeys, before stopping for lunch in the town of Midelt. Then, we’ll travel via the lovely Ziz Valley to Erfoud, which is famed for its annual dates market and fossils, where we’ll stop to observe a lovely panoramic view with the landscape of the oasis. By the time we get there, it will be time for supper and an overnight stay at a hotel in Merzouga.

The Merzouga 4×4 adventure will begin after breakfast at your accommodation. We’ll visit the Hassi Labied oasis to witness its irrigation canal and land cultivation, then travel south to the seasonally active Sriji lake (if there is water in it). If you’d like to hear the Gnawa music of the dark-skinned immigrants who came to Morocco over a century ago and were forced to work as slaves, we’ll go on to Khamlia Village. Then, we’ll proceed to the M’ifis mines. While on our Merzouga 4×4 desert tour, we’ll have the chance to visit a nomad Berber family who are still living in their tent in the middle of the Sahara. We’ll share a glass of mint tea with them and learn about life in the desert. In addition to being famous for tourism, the Merzouga desert is also known for minerals and fossils. After lunch at a local restaurant, we’ll return to the village from where you may go camel trekking to our Berber Camp in Merzouga. Along the way, we’ll stop at various panoramic viewpoints to appreciate the beauty and take pictures of the sites. The camel ride lasts between one to one and a half hours with a break on top of the dunes to watch the sunset, try sandboarding if you’re interested in that activity, enjoy the sights, and take pictures. Following these lovely moments, you’ll proceed to the camp where you’ll be greeted with a glass of tea and given time to unwind before dinner. Following dinner, there will be some traditional Berber drumming music, and you can then enjoy the starry sky before retiring to your nomadic tent for the night.

The third day, after seeing the sun rise over the dune close to the camp, you’ll enjoy a nice breakfast, take a shower, and then board the camels once more to return to the starting point. Alternatively, we may transport you by 4WD. From there, we’ll continue on to Fes via the second-longest river in Morocco, the Ziz Valley, and a crossing of the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views and have time to enjoy lunch at a restaurant. After that, we continue on to Fes in the late afternoon, dropping you off at your hotel as our 3-Day Fes to Merzouga Desert Tour comes to a conclusion. Along the way, we’ll stop at the Cedar Forest in Azrou to observe wild monkeys and take a little walk through the forest to take pictures.
