A camel trek is the most authentic way to experience the Sahara. Leave the village behind and ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes, among the highest and most spectacular in Morocco, where the only sound is silence.
We offer camel treks from one to five days. The most popular option is a single night in a standard or luxury desert camp, ideal if your time in Merzouga is short. With more time, a two-night trek takes you deeper into the dunes to visit oases and nomad families.
Every trek includes sunset and sunrise over the dunes, the chance to try sandboarding, and dinner with Berber music under the stars.

Itineraries
1One-night camel trek
Your trek starts in the late afternoon from our guesthouse at the edge of the dunes, led by local camel guides who know the desert well. After about an hour among the dunes, stop on a high crest to watch the sunset, then continue to camp. Welcome tea is followed by dinner and drumming. On a clear night you will see thousands of stars. Rise early to watch the sunrise, then have breakfast and ride back to Merzouga.2Two-night camel trek
The two-night trek also starts in the afternoon, with all supplies and meals for the journey. After about 40 minutes, stop at a small oasis hidden in the dunes, climb a dune for the view and continue to the camp for the first night, with dinner and drumming around the campfire. Next morning, after sunrise and a relaxed breakfast, ride towards the nomads’ area and have lunch in a tent, a mud house or under a desert tree. In the afternoon, continue deeper into the desert and spend the second night in camp or, if you like, with a nomad family. After breakfast on day three, ride back to Merzouga.

Good to know
- Start time: treks leave about 1.5–2 hours before sunset and return after breakfast the next morning.
- Luggage: leave your main bags at our guesthouse and take a small overnight bag.
- Parking: secure parking is available if you arrive by car or motorbike.
- Camp options: standard tents with shared bathrooms or luxury tents with private bathrooms.
What to pack
- A warm jacket or fleece – desert nights are cold, especially from November to March.
- A scarf to protect your face from sun and sand.
- Sunglasses, sun cream and a hat.
- A small overnight bag for the camp; your main luggage stays in the vehicle.
- Cash in dirhams for lunches, drinks and tips.
